So you're getting married and trying to decide what the best honeymoon route is for you. Of course, there are the tropical options, the abroad options, the all inclusive options, but have you considered a staycation? For those of you don't know, a staycation is a vacation where you stay in (or close to) your home city. There are lots of benefits to staycation-ing! Some of these benefits are:
\\ budget — of course, you can spend a lot of cash at home too, but hopefully not as much as international airfare.
\\ less stress — you don't have to pack for the what-ifs or lug around a 50 lb. suitcase, and you don't have to stress about seeing everything possible before leaving.
\\ discovery — this is a perfect opportunity to go to that coffee shop you've been hearing about, or stay at that luxury resort and spa right down the road. You can discover and appreciate all the amenities close to home!
These are just a few of the perks to staycations! And here are some tips to make your staycation honeymoon feel just as special as a trip faraway:
\\ treat it like you would a traditional honeymoon — just because you are staying local doesn't mean you can't explore and adventure like you would somewhere else. Be sure you get in the mindset that you are on a vacation, not just stomping around nearby neighborhoods.
\\ plan it out — prepare like you would for any other vacation. Map out some restaurants, museums, beaches, etc. that you want to visit. Create an itinerary and stick to it (with some side adventures if the opportunities arise).
\\ turn off your phone — sure, you can use it for documenting (hello, photo shoots!), but you can do that with your airplane mode on (this turns off all cellular activity). Don't ruin your honeymoon by checking your email and taking phone calls. In fact, go a step further by deleting all your distracting apps and turning off all notifications. You only get this honeymoon once; actually experience it!
\\ do something new — since you are treating this like a place you've never been, plan for activities at places you've never been before.
\\ splurge — drop a little extra on a fancy meal, resort, or spa!
\\ pack accordingly — hopefully you won't have a 50 lb. bag, but you still want to pack so that you won't have to go home for any reason. If you forgot something and it's reasonable to pick it up from a store (like you would somewhere else), just do it. Don't break the staycation magic by going home!
Now, if you are sold on the idea of a staycation but you just aren't sure where to go, here is a list of an option in each state!
