What common mistakes do you see couples making: I often see couples underestimating how much they need to pay for professional wedding videography. Many people list a quote online and it's so low I wonder if they realize that the best they would be getting for that price is someone using their phone to video the wedding. Most of the good wedding videos they
see online were made using thousands of dollars of equipment and the experience to use them and get a cinematic story out of the footage. A story like that; a timeless way to remember
the best parts of your wedding; is worth it!
What's your best tip for a couple planning their wedding?: It's good to use vendor recommendations for your other wedding vendors, but you need to meet each one of your vendors. You only have one shot to make this important day one of the best days in your lives, so it's crucial that you have a good vibe with your vendors. Just because a vendor has great looking photos or good reviews doesn't mean that they will fit in with your wedding day crew. If you meet your vendor and feel that they could be a friend in real life, you've made the right decision!
What couples don't know about your business industry that they should?: Wedding videos these days are much different than they used to be. A good wedding video trailer will use high-quality cinematic effects and top-notch audio to seem like a Hollywood blockbuster version of your big day. A lot of couples still haven't seen a good wedding video the way that everyone has seen good wedding photography. We just had a couple who contacted us because several different married friends of theirs said that their biggest regret for their wedding day was not having a good video!
What questions should couples be asking?: Couples should not think that they're limited on what they have seen from our previous work. They should come forward and ask us if they have any ideas and what they want to do with the video. They shouldn't be scared to be creative with us, even if it sounds a bit out of normal; we can work with it!
What is your best piece of advice for a couple planning their wedding?: I see couples have the best time at their weddings when they get a great team of vendors in place and relax and enjoy the day. If you feel comfortable with all of your vendors then the best part of the day is having a good time knowing that you are in good hands.
What's the most unusual wedding you've ever done?: Zara and I filmed a 3-day Indian wedding this year, and it was both the most exhausting and exciting wedding we've ever been a part of. We had all kinds of foreign food, saw beautiful and exotic clothing and rituals, and experienced excitement and fun in a way that we've never seen in a typical American wedding!
What was the most memorable wedding you've ever done?: The first time we really went "all in" on the wedding videography business, we filmed a wedding for a couple at a small barn venue in
Middlesex, NC. It was the most memorable because it was the first time we were using the "standard" wedding video equipment to get cinematic results. To this day it's still our best performing video and the couple was more excited to see it than anyone else. It was just a combination of a happy, relaxed couple surrounded by their loved ones and us with an exciting new passion for wedding filmmaking. The weddings and the passions continue!
